19. 祖父/母的工作

I’d like to talk about my grandpa’s job. My grandpa is 70 years old now. In the past, he was a history teacher at a secondary school in his hometown Zibo127.

If memory serves correctly, he mentioned to me that being a history teacher was his whole career128 and he spent thirty years on it. He used to tell me how much he loved doing what he did.

Plus, he has a good head for history. He loves reading historical novels and really knows history like the back of his hand. I think it’s the reason why he chose to become a history teacher.

Actually it’s a lot of fun watching a historical movie or TV show with my grandpa. He often makes commentary for129 the TV program by going into detail about130 some interesting historical stories that we have never learned in our history class. I always listened to him with relish131. It was as fun as listening to some gossip.

Honestly, I used to dream about being a teacher like my grandpa. When I was young, I stopped by132 his school once and saw him teaching at the podium133. I was blown away by seeing all the students listening to him so carefully. I mean, they were practically hanging off his every word134. I felt it was such a cool job. Now, I still think it’s a very good career choice since it’s an honorable occupation and has decent pay135.
