　　哈弗大學教授約翰.帕爾弗里近日在臺北就青年、當代媒體、數位時代和父母對子女的教育等問題發表講話。我用心閱讀了關于他演講的新聞。帕爾弗里說道，總是由家長和學校來決定孩子應該朝哪項技能方面發展――反應能力，辯論能力或是分析能力。數字內容是個能實現這些目標的強大工具。

　　I would like to put in a word for the first skill, human interaction.

　　One deficiency from which I feel many college students suffer these days isin self-knowledge and an understanding of how their words and actions affectothers. That may be another way to speak of "EQ," or "emotional quotient."

　　我能體會到當今許多大學生在自我認知和覺察自己的言行對別人的影響方面很匱乏。換句話說，就是“EQ”，或者“情商”低。

　　"IQ" designates a student's ability to grasp and express ideas and to knowhow to put knowledge to good use, so it follows that EQ points to people'sunderstanding of themselves and their impact on those around them.

　　“IQ”代表的是學生領會和表達觀點的能力，知道怎么學以致用的能力，因此EQ則是指人們對自身，及自己對周圍人的影響的理解能力。

　　I sometimes wonder if too many of our young friends are overly computerliterate, even as they are starving inwardly from loneliness and alienation. Howmany college students in Taiwan are more adept at Internet use and software thanthey are at human relationships? Too many, I am afraid.

　　我時常在想，是不是我們許多年輕朋友過于精通電腦文化，甚至他們的饑餓感是來自于孤獨和寂寞。有多少臺灣大學生對于互聯網和軟件的使用越來越熟練，卻日漸疏于人際關系呢?恐怕有很多。
