1.及物動詞[不用於被動語態] 沒有(某事物); 缺乏; 不足:

lack creativity, self-discipline, courage 缺乏創造性﹑ 自制力﹑ 勇氣 *

They lacked the money to send him to university. 他們沒錢送他上大學. *

What he lacks in experience he makes up for in enthusiasm. 他熱心工作以彌補其經驗的不足.

2. 不及物動詞：[不用於被動語態] ~ for sth (fml 文) need sth 需耍某事物:

They lacked for nothing,他們無所需求(已應有盡有).

(idm 習語) be lacking 缺:

Money for the project is still lacking. 進行這個項目的錢還沒有著落.

be lacking in sth not have enough of sth 不足; 不夠: be lacking in warmth, courage, strength 缺乏溫暖﹑ 勇氣﹑ 力氣 *

The film was lacking in pace. 這部影片不緊湊.

lack n [U, sing]

absence or shortage (of sth that is needed) (所需事物的)缺乏, 短缺: a lack of care, money, water 缺乏關心﹑ 金錢﹑ 水 *

The project had to be abandoned for lack of funds. 工程因資金匱乏只得放棄.

詞匯點評：

lack 這個詞既是及物動詞，也是不及物動詞，而且也是名詞。所以很多同學用混了。最常見的錯誤是 be lack of…. 四不像。還有就是用做名詞的時候是不可數。一般為 for lack of+名詞 但是也見過a lack of…

Sth fails for a lack of sth/lack of sth(復數).

經典搭配：
