Degree: An academic title given by a college or university to a student who has completed a course of study: 學位由學院或大學授予完成學業的學生的學術稱號

這個詞在IELTS考試中考過兩次，一次在V30的Section 4，講到娛樂治療師應當具有master’s degree（碩士學位），另一次是在V37的section 2，講到健身俱樂部的教練至少要有一定的degree（學位），這兩個version都要求填寫degree這個詞。在國外，從事專業性的、技術性的工作，都必須具備一定的qualification（資格），而獲得某種學位（degree）則是資格的其中條件之一。此外，大多數行業的從業者必須進行某種形式的考核獲得執照（licence）后成為professional的從業者才能從事相應的技術工作。許多國家的法律規定，沒有執照的從業者從業是違法的。下面列舉了一些常見的學位。

Bachelor’s degree學士學位

大家注意：Ph.D雖然從字面上解釋是哲學博士，但并不是指所學的專業就是哲學，前幾天在報上看了一片文章，說某公司人事部門在招聘一“海龜”時看見學位證書上寫的是Ph.D，不禁大惑：我們不需要學哲學的博士，隨拿到學位認證中心要求認證，結果工作人員仔細講解一番后才恍然大悟。不過科學確實與哲學有著緊密的聯系，看看哲學的部分英文解釋就明白了。

Philosophy: （1）Love and pursuit of wisdom by intellectual means and moral self-discipline. 對智慧的熱愛與追求，通過智力途徑和道德上的自律來達到對智慧的熱愛與追求；(2) The investigation of causes and laws underlying reality. 哲理的探討，在現實的基礎上對原因和規律的探究 (3) Inquiry into the nature of things based on logical reasoning rather than empirical methods. 自然科學基于邏輯推理而不是憑經驗得來的方法來探究事物的本質 (4) The critique and analysis of fundamental beliefs as they come to be conceptualized and formulated. 批判分析對將要概念化和公式化的基本信念的審定與分析。

攻讀博士學位期間的主要工作就是對各自的方向依據上述哲學原理進行廣泛而深入的研究，因此除了醫學、法律、神學三個學科之外，其余的博士學位獲得者學位證書上寫的都是Ph.D。

IELTS聽力橫聽筆記--高頻詞匯（Certificate)

Certificate: (1) A document certifying that a person may officially practice in certain professions. 執照，證明某人可正式從事某行業的文件; (2) A document testifying to the truth of something:
 證（明）書，證明事物真實性的文件，如a certificate of birth，出生證明；postdoctoral certificate,博士后證書

目前這個詞考過兩次，一次是V26的section 1；另一次是V37的section 2。與degree不同的是，由于該詞的拼寫較為復雜，因此其考點只出現在選擇題中，但是考生應該記住它的拼寫。在degree的解釋中說過，在西方國家，從事專業技術工作必須要有相應的職業資格證書，例如從事幼兒園的工作，必須要有certificate of child care。
